Proxmox Finally Runs on ARM! But Should You Use It?

Proxmox Hardware

Video write-up

Proxmox VE now officially supports ARM64—but does that make ARM a practical alternative to x86 for your homelab? I installed Proxmox on the Minisforum MS-R1 and tested the familiar workflows: installation, virtual machines, Linux containers, Docker, snapshots, networking, and storage. I also looked at where ARM still falls short, including the smaller template selection, Proxmox VE Helper Script compatibility, third-party software support, and the limited choice of suitable hardware. Proxmox itself is ready for ARM, but the surrounding ecosystem still has some catching up to do. Here’s what worked, what didn’t, and whether I would use it in a production homelab today.
